Rangers Score A Goal Against Child Abuse

I know a guy on the board of this charity and went to this event a number of years ago. I recomend it.

New York, February 8, 2008 – The New York Rangers’ Blair Betts, Dan Girardi, Colton Orr and Marc Staal join alumnus and honorary chairman Adam Graves at the 11th Annual Family Dynamics fundraising event on Tuesday, February 12th from 6:00 – 8:30 PM at the “Play by Play” restaurant at Madison Square Garden. Family Dynamics, a member of SCO Family of Services, is dedicated to strengthening families and preventing child abuse and neglect. Rangers team members will host a series of activities, including kids games, a live Rangers sports memorabilia auction, an autograph session and a street hockey clinic.

Family Dynamics is supported by the Rangers and the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a non-profit charity that works closely with all areas of Madison Square Garden to “make dreams come true for kids in crisis.” Attending children will receive goodie bags from Garden of Dreams and the Rangers.

Graves is Next

In case you haven’t heard, Brian Leetch announced Adam Graves number will be retired next by the Rangers with his No.9 hanging from the rafters along with Leetch, Messier and Richter.

It took Graves totally by surprise. “To have the privilege of having this opportunity,” Graves said. ”I had the good fortune of having known Rod. I look at Brian, Mike and Mark. I was the one guy who depended on them more than they depended [on each other]. I just feel humbled by that.”

The ceremony will come sometime next season and the Rangers said Graves will be the last member of the 1994 team to have his number retired.

Could Mess Be In?

With Don Maloney out, the Rangers will need a new second man in the front office. Both Mark Messier, who desired Glen Sather’s job back in February and Adam Graves are candidates. As is Jim Schoenfeld, the Hartford GM.

Of the candidates, Sather will look to retain someone who will do the legwork Maloney did over the past decade in teh front office. Both Messier and Graves are inexperienced, yet could get some sort of position to begin their careers, but Schoenfeld has the knowledge of the organization, so will also a considerable look.

Eventually Messier will probably work his way up to the job, The Captain said he was moving to New York and wanted to be Slats’ successor. So, it would be hard to fathom if he was left out in the cold.

As for Maloney, Sather may have a trading partner. Larry Brooks mentioned a possible Al Montoya for the third overall pick. We shall see what prospects Maloney liked more than Sather and if any deals come to pass.

You can read more about this on NY Sports Day.
