My Sunday doubleheader continues. I was at Shea earlier and now sitting here at the Garden for Game 3.

Before the game, the media spoke with Tom Renney, who seemed very loose as his team looks to take control of this series by going up 3-0.

Jaromir Jagr came in and showed the press his Stanley Cup Ring, which he tells us is the “2008 ring.”

The Blueshirts will tote the same lineup out there, why change?

As for the Devils, they will desperately try to get back in this series which could be over by Wednesday if the Blueshirts keep winning.

Philly won today with Marty Biron coming through with a shutout, so it’s a brand new series with the Flyers taking home ice.

Oh and the Mets lost 9-7, but we won’t go there.

More later….

Tonight we get the Devils in New Jersey, which should be a blood war if the first five minutes is anything. Sean Avery is already out with a five for fighting and the hits are coming.

But the Rangers are 5-0 this year against the Devils and need this game if they hope to win the division or the East.

More later as it comes in….

The Knicks and Nets have both been horrible with little end in sight. And the hockey teams haven’t been much better. Even the New York Rangers, who were coming on, but couldn’t follow though this week with two bad games at the Garden, including last night’s loss 4-1 to the Anaheim Ducks. “You are not going to win games by working hard,” said coach Tom Renney. “You are going to win games by having poise and composure, whether you are winning or losing.”

Just kidding. But between my coverage of the Yankees for Sportscene, Mets for Inside Pitch, and create myself a little bit of a personal life, I had little time to jump on this.

Here are my thoughts though:

1) Signing Chris Drury is just what this team needed. Even more than Scott Gomez, the Rangers needed Drury and the dimention he adds to this team.

2) Gomez is an upgrade over Michael Nylander, but his value will come in star power. Unlike the Devils, the Rangers will market him and in a league that is looking for new fans will become one of the top stars in the diverse city. He’s a pretty good hockey player too.

3) Their signings mean there is no margin for error. The Rangers need all the restricteds signed as well as Brendan Shanahan. Also, they better hope no major injuries occur, since they will probably lack the cap space for any major moves during the season unless someone is waived. [Paul Mara, you are on notice].

4) After last season Tom Renney needs to show he can keep the ship together. Unlike last season when they kind of got a pass early on, the Garden Faithful will be very unhappy if a perceived Cup contender starts out of the gate slow.

But all this means, I can’t wait until September!!

I will be updating more often if news comes by, so stay tuned!!Â

Just because Blueshirt season is over does not mean I am not working.

At Yankee Stadium tonight and since “The Bronx Scene” – or “The Amazin’ Scene” for that matter – is not set up yet, I will use this for my baseball blogging for the time being.

Ok, today, Matt DeSalvo is making his big league debut with Kei Igawa going to Tampa for now to work on his mechanics. DeSalvo becomes the 10th starting pitcher for the Bombers this season, making them the first team in history to use 10 starters in 30 games.  Â

Before the game, though, no one was talking about the new guy, but rather the old guy. Roger Clemens dominated the converstaion with the players happy and Joe Torre and Brian Cashman trying to justify the move, since the Rocket has special features in his contract like missing games when he wants.

This moves proves a few things. First George Steinbrenners sons, Hal and Hank, are gaining powerin the organization, because they had a lot of influence over this deal. Also Cashman said this move allows the team to add a pitcher without getting the farm system raped. So from that perspective, it’s a good move.Â

And with the way the Yankees are going through pitchers, Clemens is needed. At 44, you wonder how much he has left and the way they announced it was somewhat embarassing, but you can’t argue with the need for the Rocket, even if he costs an arm and a leg [estimated at $153,000 a day for every day he will be active if he starts on June 1] and can take a holiday if he wishes.

Enough on Clemens, who now can buy subscriptions to NY Sportscene with his new found wealth.

Speaking of that, the new issue of NYS is now out with articles on Jorge Posada, Tom Renney, the Mets, Gil Hodges and more. For $25.50 a year, you get 12 issues, so please subscribe at www.nysportscene.com/subscribe.php.

And stay tuned tomorrow as I will be at Ranger breakup day in Greenburgh.  Â

Â
